Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama)
Siddhartha Gautauma was the son of a wealthy Indian prince who lived from 623-543 BC.
He lived in a sheltered world at his parents' palace and was first in adults aware of illness, old age and death on a trip outside the palace.
He broke up from his family, wife and children, to seek the truth about life and above all a response to the question:
How should man be freed from suffering?
The meeting with a monk led him to meditaionen and under a bodhi tree, he came to inikt and became enlightened (Buddha).
Buddha's great discovery was that suffering is due to natural thirst and craving.
