- don't harm ourselves or others

To abstain taking what is not given
- don't steal

To abstain from sexual misconduct
- be faithful and do not misuse sex

To abstain from false speech
- don't use lies, gossip or slander

To abstain from intoxicants
- don't abuse alcohol and drugs, cause carelessness or loss of awareness
